An economical boutique hotel in the heart of Playa del Carmen near renowned Fifth Avenue, Magic Blue is surrounded by shops, restaurants, nightlife, and an array of other cultural attractions including the Frida Kahlo Museum. The adults-only hotel isn’t directly on the beach, which has a strong negative effect on the Beach Quality score and the Overall Beach Resort Rating; however, it’s only about a five-minute walk. There’s also no fitness center, some rooms have street/nightclub noise, and the overall service receives mixed reviews; but the property offers decent rooms for the price, nice open-air bar and dining areas, a small spa, and little perks such as complimentary wine and snacks in the lobby. Rooms come with balconies with hammocks. Water sports such as scuba diving, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, parasailing, and sailing are available within walking distance. While Magic Blue doesn’t score particularly well as a beach resort, it’s a good choice for couples and singles looking for an affordable boutique option near the middle of the action in Playa del Carmen.
Departure COVID-19 testing is available for guests traveling back to the United States, but it is not complimentary.
