Surrounded by tropical jungle flora about halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum on a beautiful stretch of white-sand beach in Xpu-Ha, near Puerto Aventuras, this adults-only, all-inclusive Catalonia property caters well to couples and singles looking to relax. It’s a little more upscale than its three sister properties along the Riviera Maya (in various locations), and the rates follow suit; its sister properties also have a significantly different atmosphere because they welcome children. The food is just so-so at best (this is typical of all-inclusive Catalonia resorts), timeshare sales pitches can be a nuisance, the beach volleyball court is below average, and the rooms are a long walk from the beach (especially certain rooms, and all lack ocean views); but the property offers an expansive swimming pool just off the beach, excellent restaurant variety, live Cabaret-style shows, and a friendly staff. And again, the beach is very high quality here (despite some seaweed at times) – this factor helps the Overall Beach Resort Rating. Perks of choosing the higher-end “Privileged” package include significantly better hotel rooms, premium drinks, and exclusive beach and lounge areas. Activities include snorkeling, scuba diving (lessons are provided in the pool), water polo, pool aerobics, and more.
Complimentary COVID-19 antigen tests are available on-site for guests traveling back to the United States (minimum three-night stay required). In the event of a positive test, guests can extend their stay at the resort for up to 10 days at no additional cost.
