Part of the massive five-section Iberostar Paraiso resort complex between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen, the family-friendly Paraiso Maya (Baa2) is one of two mid-range sections, along with the basically identical Paraiso Lindo (Baa2). Its other three immediate neighbors include the more luxurious Grand Paraiso (Aa1) section (adults only), and the more economical Paraiso Beach (Ba1) and Paraiso Del Mar (Ba1) sections. Maya guests have access to all areas except the Grand section. Some rooms are a long walk from the beach (the section is long and narrow, perpendicular to the shore; a shuttle is available), the food is just mediocre overall, and the rooms are a little dated for the price tag; but the resort offers a strong beach area, an enormous central swimming pool with two swim-up bars, an on-site P.B. Dye-designed golf course, a bar and grill right on the beach, evening entertainment, quality spa and fitness facilities, a nightclub, and a kids club. Other activities include scuba diving, jet skiing, sailing, snorkeling, kayaking, archery, dance and cooking classes, yoga and spin classes, and wine tasting. Other kid-friendly amenities include a wave pool (highly unique), a pirate ship with waterslides, and a lazy river. An entertainment team keeps activities going throughout the day.
Free COVID-19 antigen tests are available on-site for all guests returning to the United States. PCR tests are also offered for a fee.
