A low-priced option on Cupecoy Bay on the Dutch side of St. Maarten near the airport, Sapphire Beach Club Resort caters mostly to couples on a budget. The beach is tiny and strewn with boulders (it’s scenic in a way, but not very functional; this factor has a strong negative effect on the Overall Beach Resort Rating, keeping it down in the lower C range), the rooms are very dated and not overly clean, on-site activities are extremely limited, and the fitness center is well below average; but the property offers an on-site bar and restaurant, affordable rates, a decent swimming pool, and a relatively quiet atmosphere. Rooms come with full kitchens, balconies or terraces, and flat-screen TVs. Activities include weekly manager’s cocktail parties and water aerobics (and not much else). There are a few bars and restaurants within walking distance, though, which helps to make up for the lack on dining variety on-site. Princess Juliana International Airport is just a few minutes away.
