Featuring a fairly nice white-sand beach and lots of amenities, the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum is part of the greater Bahia Principe resort complex just north of Tulum, in Akumal. The other sections are the Bahia Principe Grand Coba (Ba1), the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal (Baa1), and the adults-only Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an (Baa2). The rooms in the Tulum section are much closer to the beach than those at the sister Coba section, which is similarly priced but a notch lower on the Overall Beach Resort Rating scale. Some restaurants require long pants for men, the ocean is a little rocky, and the rooms are fairly basic; but the property offers a spa with Mayan-inspired treatments, an on-site dolphinarium, and a casino and nightclub. The Riviera Maya Golf Club is just across the road. A shuttle is provided to get around the grounds; guests have access to the amenities of sister property Bahia Principe Grand Coba next door, including a kids pool with small waterslides. One complimentary hour of non-motorized water sports such as kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling per day is included in the all-inclusive rate. Other activities include scuba diving (one lesson is complimentary), dance and aerobics classes, and kids activities at the kids club. The Mayan ruins at Tulum aren’t far.
