Resort Profile

Boasting a Aaa Overall Beach Resort Rating, an impeccable white-sand beach, and a superior spa, Playa del Carmen’s Banyan Tree Mayakoba is one of the best luxury beach resorts in all of Mexico, especially for couples looking to relax and rejuvenate. The Banyan Tree hotel brand, based in Thailand, is known for its opulent spas and extravagant amenities; this property is the brand’s first in North America. The word “Mayakoba” translates to “village over the water”; the Mayakoba resort complex, consisting of multiple hotel brands and properties, is home to some of the Riviera Maya’s most exclusive resorts, Banyan Tree being one of them. All accommodations are spacious villas with up to three bedrooms; they’re equipped with private pools, floor-to-ceiling windows, sun decks, and a unique fusion of Mayan and Asian-inspired décor. Everything here is expensive and the fitness center is only fairly good (it doesn’t quite live up to the quality of everything else); but the resort offers first class service, outstanding restaurants and cuisine variety, cooking and yoga classes, wine and tequila tastings, beautiful natural-looking community pools surrounded by tropical flora, a bar right on the beach (plus a nice swim-up bar overlooking the beach), private dinner or breakfast boat rides for couples through the canals and mangroves of Mayakoba, and an 18-hole golf course on-site. The spa offers a Rainforest circuit with ten different hydrothermal experiences and traditional Thai and Balinese massages, plus much more.

Andaz Mayakoba, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba and Rosewood Mayakoba provide complimentary COVID-19 antigen tests on-site for guests staying three nights or more. PCR tests are also available at an additional charge. In the event of a positive test, guests can extend their stay at a discounted rate.
