With a beautiful white-sand beachfront and attractive rates, Catalonia Playa Maroma is one of the Riviera Maya’s better values in its price range (the TripValue here is +3, which is excellent). Some rooms (and the lobby) are a bit of a walk from the beach, timeshare and tour package pitches are inevitable, the food is inconsistent in quality, and some restaurants and amenities are only included for “Privileged” guests (see below); but the property offers nature trails through the surrounding mangroves and a small on-site spa. Opting for the more expensive “Privileged” package comes with exclusive access to significantly better (and more modern) hotel rooms, certain restaurants (namely the tapas restaurant), beach and lounge areas, and spa discounts and other perks like premium drinks. The Privileged rooms and high quality of the beach upgrade the Overall Beach Resort Rating to the upper B range, which is higher than it would be otherwise. Activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, Hobie Cat sailing, kayaking, dance classes, swimming with dolphins, and beach volleyball, among more.
Complimentary COVID-19 antigen tests are available on-site for guests traveling back to the United States (minimum three-night stay required). In the event of a positive test, guests can extend their stay at the resort for up to 10 days at no additional cost.
