A somewhat upscale resort for the price with a good selection of activities, the Grand Bavaro Princess attracts a mix of couples and families, but caters more to couples. Some rooms are a long walk from the beach and the food is just so-so; but the property offers outstanding dining variety (nine restaurants), a nice beach with plenty of space and palm trees, both a quiet pool and a more social pool with a swim-up bar, nice rooms for the price (many have jacuzzis), quality spa and fitness facilities, and an on-site casino. Other perks include a kids club, three tennis courts with lights, and nightly shows. Activities, some of which especially cater to the European crowd the hotel is known for, include French bowls (a game similar to bocce), archery, ping pong, dance classes, aerobics classes, pool basketball, beach volleyball, water polo, Hobie Cat sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. The grounds are quite beautiful, with an abundance of tropical flora and wildlife such as parrots and peacocks roaming about.
On-site COVID-19 testing prior to departure is available for a fee ($35 for rapid antigen tests and $125 for PCR tests). Rapid antigen tests are complimentary for guests traveling back to the U.S.
