A budget-friendly option just north of Tulum, in Akumal, the Grand Oasis Tulum caters more to families than couples. The beach is on the small side by Riviera Maya standards, the food and service get a relatively high percentage of poor reviews, the rooms are somewhat dated, king beds are actually two double beds pushed together, and the fitness center is tiny and lackluster; but the property offers five pools, two swim-up bars, excellent restaurant variety, good tennis courts, a basketball/sport court, a small spa, and an impressive kids club and kids pool area called the “Kiddo Zone,” which includes a unique kids-only eatery. Activities include fishing, scuba diving, yoga classes, Zumba classes, and aerobics. The Mayan ruins at Tulum aren’t far.
Complimentary on-site COVID-19 antigen tests are available prior to departure for guests traveling to the United States (minimum three-night stay required for eligibility).
