Part of a sprawling five-property Grand Palladium resort complex along the Akumal coast between Tulum and Playa del Carmen (along with the Colonial, Kantenah, Riviera, and Royal Suites), the White Sand section caters well to both families and couples; for couples, adults-only “Romance Bungalow” suites are available, and they’re more economical than those in the adults-only Royal Suites section of the resort complex. The Colonial and Kantenah sections share space and are virtually the same (this is the older but more upscale area) and the White Sand and Riviera sections share space (where it’s a little more quiet); the Royal Suites section is the only area that other guests can’t access. There’s an extra fee to use the fitness and spa facilities (which are high quality, however) and timeshare sales pitches can be a nuisance; but the property offers outstanding restaurant and bar variety, a saltwater rock pool by the ocean, rooms with jacuzzis, a very expansive main swimming pool, a good white-sand beach, an impressive six tennis courts (plus badminton and basketball courts and a soccer field, which is unique), a nightclub, outdoor showers in some rooms, and decent food for an all-inclusive. The Xtra Time Sports Bar is one of the best hotel sports bars in the Mexico/Caribbean region; it has plenty of space and TV screens, games such as billiards, and snacks like cheesy garlic bread, wings, and other bar food. Activities include scuba diving, a sea turtle release program, beach volleyball, nightly entertainment, karaoke tournaments, archery, crocodile feedings (in a protected habitat), sailing, and deep sea fishing.
Free COVID-19 antigen tests are offered on-site to guests traveling back to countries that require it for re-entry, including the United States. In order to be eligible for the complimentary test, however, guests must be enrolled in the Palladium Rewards loyalty program before check-out (there is no cost for joining). Test results will be received the same day in digital format as required by the CDC. Guests should contact the Front Desk upon arrival to schedule. PCR tests are also available, at an additional fee. In the event of a positive test, the affected guest can quarantine at the hotel for up to 10 days at no additional cost, with up to three companions.
