Just barely missing a perfect Aaa Overall Beach Resort Rating, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, near Puerto Vallarta, is one of the most luxurious all-inclusive resorts in Mexico; it caters well to both couples and families with top-notch accommodations and excellent restaurants (especially for an all-inclusive). The grounds can be somewhat crowded at peak times (which means you may need to reserve lounge chairs by the pool first thing in the morning at certain times of year) and the beach is somewhat narrow (this is the factor that downgrades the Overall Beach Resort Rating from Aaa to Aa1); but the resort offers impeccable service (including top-notch restaurant service and twice-daily maid service), a good beachfront, and an alluring tiered infinity pool with a great swim-up bar overlooking the ocean. All accommodations are suites with plenty of space (at least 1,000 square feet); they come with teak furniture imported from Bali, Nespresso coffee machines, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, re-stocked minibars, 24-hour room service, and furnished balconies (many with ocean views); the Wellness Suites have private spa spaces and fitness amenities and the Family Residences come with up to three bedrooms. Other resort features include an outstanding spa with 20 treatment rooms, an amphitheater with live music, and superior kids and teens clubs (the teens club is particularly impressive). Activities include organic cooking classes, scuba diving classes, tennis lessons, snorkeling, kayaking, antigravity yoga, beach volleyball, Zumba and Pilates classes, Mexican bingo, ping pong tournaments, and fiestas and theme nights that celebrate the culture of Puerto Vallarta. Other water sports and off-site shops and restaurants are available within walking distance.
