An adults-only, all-inclusive, clothing-optional property in Akumal, just north of Tulum, Hidden Beach Au Naturel Resort by Karisma caters mostly to middle-aged and upper-middle-aged couples looking for an escape. Rates here are on the high side for what you get (the TripValue is -7, our lowest score for value), but guests pay for the unique atmosphere and experience. The beach is small and poor in quality; it’s well below average for the Riviera Maya and has a strong negative effect on the Overall Beach Resort Rating. There’s no on-site spa, there’s only one restaurant, the swimming pool is small, there isn’t much going on at night, and the au naturel atmosphere isn’t for everyone; but the resort offers fairly upscale accommodations with jacuzzis and plenty of space, swim-up rooms, a nice swim-up bar, a basic fitness center (clothing required), good overall service, and a laid-back (not racy) vibe. Guests can also dine at the restaurants at sister property El Dorado Seaside Suites next door. The Mayan ruins at Tulum aren’t far.
