The most upscale, secluded, and tranquil section of the Bahia Principe resort complex just north of Tulum, the adults-only Bahia Principe Sian Ka’an caters well to couples. Its sister Bahia Principe neighbors include the Luxury Akumal (Baa1), Tulum (Baa2), and Coba (Ba1) sections. The Sian Ka’an has significantly more modern, higher-quality rooms and better service than the other sections, but its Overall Beach Resort Rating isn’t the best of the complex because the rooms are very far from the beach (a 15-minute shuttle is necessary; this factor alone brings the Overall Beach Resort Rating down three notches from A1 to Baa2). Also, there are often kids on the beach, and on-site dining variety is below average for an all-inclusive. However, the property offers strong butler service, a spa with Mayan-inspired treatments and hydrotherapy, a nearby dolphinarium by the Tulum section (a negative attribute for many), and a casino and nightclub. Some suites have outdoor terraces with jacuzzis, and the Riviera Maya Golf Club is just across the street. Guests have access to the amenities of the other sections across the road, including the restaurants (the reverse isn’t true). One complimentary hour of non-motorized water sports such as kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling per day is included in the all-inclusive rate. Other activities include scuba diving (one lesson is complimentary), yoga classes, and dance and aerobics classes. The Mayan ruins at Tulum aren’t far.
Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts is offering the COVID-19 viral antigen test on-site and at no cost to guests traveling back to the United States. Test results will be received within 24-48 hours prior to departure as required by the CDC, in written and/or electronical format. Guests should contact the Front Desk upon arrival to schedule departure testing. In the event of a positive test, the affected guest and a companion can extend their stay up to 10 days at no additional cost. A three-night minimum stay is required to be eligible for both the free on-site test and the 10-day extension.
