With rock-bottom rates, St. Maarten’s Mary’s Boon Beach Resort & Spa is one of the most affordable options on the island. Airplane noise can be an issue, as the hotel is literally just yards from the runway at Princess Juliana International Airport (a fun thing for some, not so fun for others), there’s just one on-site restaurant (with so-so food), the rooms are quite dated and many have unattractive décor, the service gets inconsistent reviews, on-site activities are basically non-existent, and the pool is very small; but the property offers a nice beach area (it’s the main highlight here, lifting the Overall Beach Resort Rating from the lower C range to the upper C range), a basic on-site spa, a swim-up bar, and a mostly relaxed atmosphere. With a quirky, eclectic style, the rooms come in two general categories: studios and suites. All have kitchenettes with refrigerators, stoves, and microwaves except for the Mini Garden Studios. Suites come with either one or two bedrooms. Karakter Beach Bar & Restaurant right next door has great food and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but there isn’t much else within walking distance. For guests that prioritize the beach and easy access to the airport, Mary’s Boon is a decent value.
