Resort Profile

Actually located just south of Cancun on the way to Puerto Morelos (and not in Cancun itself), Moon Palace Cancun is a sprawling luxury mega-resort that caters very well to families, and it’s just a few minutes from the airport. The beach is narrow and below average by Cancun standards, with a propensity for seaweed and murky water (this has a strong negative effect on the Overall Beach Resort Rating, taking it out of the upper A range) and golf carts are required to get around; but the property offers superior kids and teens clubs, a highly unique Flowrider machine, a full-scale water park with large waterslides (in The Grand section), a 27-hole golf course (one of just two Jack Nicklaus Signature courses in the Cancun area), a massive 39-treatment room spa, over 20 restaurants and bars with good food and drinks for an all-inclusive, an impressive main swimming pool area, very high quality accommodations, and outstanding on-site nightlife and nightly entertainment – including the resort’s signature Mexican Fire Show. The resort is divided into three sections (Sunrise, Nizuc, and The Grand); the Sunrise section is the largest and liveliest, the Nizuc section is second largest and a little more relaxed, and The Grand (rated Aa2, booked separately – search “The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun”) is the most laid-back and upscale, making it the best for couples. Other features include bikes for rent; multiple fitness centers; tennis courts; and a water sports center with scuba diving, jet skiing, parasailing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and more.

Departure COVID-19 antigen (rapid) testing is available on-site at no cost to guests (for up to two guests per room staying a minimum of three nights) traveling to the United States. Additional tests can be purchased for $19 USD. Results are received within 30 minutes. In the event of a positive test, guests can extend their stay at no additional charge for up to 14 days.

The TripValue score compares a resort’s Overall Beach Resort Rating to its average room price (which we express as the Price-Implied Rating). It tells you if the resort is relatively underpriced (a positive TripValue), overpriced (a negative TripValue), or fairly priced (an Even TripValue), on average.
