An adults-only, economy all-inclusive just north of Playa del Carmen and the renowned Mayakoba resort area, Ocean Maya Royale caters well to couples with a relaxed (yet somewhat social) vibe and a great selection of activities. The beach area is decent overall with a good amount of space, but certainly not as strong as others in the Playa del Carmen area (mainly because most of it is walled off and doesn’t directly meet the water); it especially pales in comparison to the outstanding beaches a little farther down the coast by Mayakoba. However, the property offers excellent customer service, five restaurants and three bars (including a swim-up bar), an upscale coffee shop, solid spa and fitness facilities, and good rooms for the price with modern amenities. On-site activities include daily yoga classes, snorkeling, jet skiing, scuba diving, Hobie Cat sailing, beach volleyball, biking, tennis, and kayaking. Upgrading to “Privilege” status includes breakfast in bed, a welcome bottle of wine, reserved lounge chairs and Bali beds on a private area of the beach, access to a lounge with premium drinks and hors d’oeuvres, butler service, slightly better rooms, and preferred restaurant reservations.
