Part of the massive Riu resort complex in Punta Cana, the Bambu section is one of two more economical sections, along with the Naiboa (B2). The other sections of the complex include the upper-mid-range Riu Palace Bavaro (Baa1) and Riu Palace Punta Cana (Baa1) and the adults-only Riu Palace Macao (A2). The adults-only Riu Republica (Baa2) is about ten resorts down the beach. The food is just average to poor in quality, rooms are fairly basic in terms of amenities, some facilities such as the spa and fitness center are located in other sections of the complex, and some rooms have two double beds pushed together instead of kings; but the property offers two trendy swimming pools (for both partying and relaxing) plus a lively swim-up bar, access to a water park with large slides, a wide beach with plenty of lounge chairs and palm trees for shade, recently refurbished rooms with liquor dispensers and attractive décor, great bartenders, excellent dining variety, and discounted greens fees at Punta Blanca Golf Club next door. Other activities include scuba diving, parasailing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and excursions to Catalina Island via Scuba Caribe.
Guests returning to the U.S. can take the COVID-19 antigen test on-site. There is no additional cost for all adults and children. This service is available at all Riu resorts in Mexico (except Riu Plaza Guadalajara), Jamaica, Aruba, and Punta Cana and is provided by an accredited medical testing lab that complies with the requirements of the CDC. Test results are received within 72 hours prior to departure, as required by the CDC. In the event of a positive test, Riu Hotels will provide an extension of up to 10 days at no cost.
