With an excellent pool area and and an often-lively swim-up bar, the Riu Jalisco caters well to couples and singles. The reasonable price tag attracts families as well. The Riu hotel chain offers three all-inclusive hotels in Nuevo Vallarta: the more economical Riu Jalisco (B2) and Riu Vallarta (Ba2) and the mid-range Riu Palace Pacifico (Baa2). The rooms at the Jalisco are fairly basic and the food is below average; but the resort offers a separate adult pool, an on-site nightclub, a sports bar, and a good variety of restaurants open for dinner. In terms of off-site restaurants and shops, however, there isn’t much in the immediate vicinity. Rooms come with balconies or terraces, air conditioning, minibars, and liquor dispensers; Family Rooms with bunk beds are also available. Non-motorized water sports (kayaking, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, snorkeling) and one introductory scuba diving demo in the pool are part of the all-inclusive plan. Horseback riding, golf, and other water sports are available nearby at an additional charge.
Guests returning to the U.S. can take the COVID-19 antigen test on-site. There is no additional cost for all adults and children. This service is available at all Riu resorts in Mexico (except Riu Plaza Guadalajara), Jamaica, Aruba, and Punta Cana and is provided by an accredited medical testing lab that complies with the requirements of the CDC. Test results are received within 72 hours prior to departure, as required by the CDC. In the event of a positive test, Riu Hotels will provide an extension of up to 10 days at no cost.
