Situated along one of the best and largest beaches in the Ocho Rios region, Riu Ocho Rios caters well to both couples and families with recently renovated rooms and common areas (2019-20). The sprawling all-inclusive resort meanders its way through well-manicured grounds and contains two large (and excellent) swimming pool areas with plenty of in-water loungers. The food is just so-so overall (although the jerk chicken shack impresses) and there isn’t much within walking distance; but the property offers a nice spa with open-air beachside massages, a kids club, a decent (but not great) fitness center, and 24-hour room service. The rooms are equipped with liquor dispensers, minibars, and private balconies or terraces; most rooms have at least partial ocean views and some have jacuzzis. Activities include beach volleyball (on a subpar court), sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, and aqua aerobics classes. Downtown Ocho Rios and local attractions such as Dunn’s River Falls and the Green Grotto Caves are quick taxi rides away.
Guests returning to the U.S. can take the COVID-19 antigen test on-site. There is no additional cost for all adults and children. This service is available at all Riu resorts in Mexico (except Riu Plaza Guadalajara), Jamaica, Aruba, and Punta Cana and is provided by an accredited medical testing lab that complies with the requirements of the CDC. Test results are received within 72 hours prior to departure, as required by the CDC. In the event of a positive test, Riu Hotels will provide an extension of up to 10 days at no cost.
