The adults-only, most upscale section of the Riu resort complex in Montego Bay, the lively Riu Palace Jamaica caters especially well to more social couples. The other two sections of the complex include the kid-friendly Riu Montego Bay (B1) to the east and the adults-only Riu Reggae (Baa2) to the west; these two sections aren’t as modern or upscale, but they’re lower-priced. Airplane noise can be noticeable (the plus side here, of course, is that the airport is just a few minutes away), the pools are somewhat small for the size of the property (especially for the Riu chain, which typically has excellent, expansive pools), the food is just so-so (although the jerk chicken is quite good at the beachside hut), and on-site restaurant variety is lackluster for an all-inclusive (there are just three a la carte options plus buffet); but the resort offers a fairly good beach area (especially compared to the general vicinity) with palm trees and day beds, modern rooms with an especially chic style, a sometimes-lively swim-up bar by the beach, and great all-around service. Rooms come with jetted tubs, rainfall showers, liquor dispensers, and balconies or terraces. Activities include horseback riding, ziplining, jungle tours, bike tours, river tubing, and ATV tours (available in the immediate vicinity) plus beach volleyball, scuba diving, sailing, party boat rides with snorkeling, and kayaking available on-site. A fun entertainment team keeps other games and activities going throughout the day and there’s a good selection of off-site shops and restaurants available within walking distance. Riu Palace guests have non-reciprocal access to both neighboring sister properties.
Guests returning to the U.S. can take the COVID-19 antigen test on-site. There is no additional cost for all adults and children. This service is available at all Riu resorts in Mexico (except Riu Plaza Guadalajara), Jamaica, Aruba, and Punta Cana and is provided by an accredited medical testing lab that complies with the requirements of the CDC. Test results are received within 72 hours prior to departure, as required by the CDC. In the event of a positive test, Riu Hotels will provide an extension of up to 10 days at no cost.
