The most exclusive, luxurious section of the massive Riu resort complex in Punta Cana, the adults-only Palace Macao caters well to couples. The other sections of the complex include the upper-mid-range Riu Palace Bavaro (Baa1) and Riu Palace Punta Cana (Baa1) and the more economical Riu Bambu (Ba1) and Riu Naiboa (B2). The adults-only Riu Republica (Baa2) is about ten resorts down the beach. Some amenities such as the gym and spa are located in other sections (and can be a bit of a walk), and the food is underwhelming, even for an all-inclusive; but the property offers a beautiful, very wide beach with plenty of lounge chairs and an abundance of palm trees for shade, a nice swimming pool area with in-water loungers and a swim-up bar, access to a water park with large slides, sleek rooms with name-brand liquor dispensers and luxurious bathrooms (many also have hydromassage bathtubs and terraces with jacuzzis), 24-hour room service, a friendly staff, and discounted greens fees at Punta Blanca Golf Club next door. Other activities include scuba diving, parasailing, kayaking, sailing, dance classes, beach volleyball, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and excursions to Catalina Island via Scuba Caribe. The main factors setting the Palace Macao apart from the other sections are the slightly higher quality rooms, even wider beach, and more serene atmosphere; the rooms and beach contribute to the A2 Overall Beach Resort Rating, the highest of the six sections of the complex.
Guests returning to the U.S. can take the COVID-19 antigen test on-site. There is no additional cost for all adults and children. This service is available at all Riu resorts in Mexico (except Riu Plaza Guadalajara), Jamaica, Aruba, and Punta Cana and is provided by an accredited medical testing lab that complies with the requirements of the CDC. Test results are received within 72 hours prior to departure, as required by the CDC. In the event of a positive test, Riu Hotels will provide an extension of up to 10 days at no cost.
