An adults-only, all-inclusive beach resort just a few minutes from Sangster International Airport, Riu Reggae is the second most upscale of three neighboring Riu properties; the other two are the more economical (and kid-friendly) Riu Montego Bay (B1) and the adults-only Riu Palace Jamaica (Baa1). Airplane noise can be noticeable, the food is just so-so (although the jerk chicken is quite good at the beachside hut), the atmosphere can be too loud and rowdy for some, and on-site restaurant variety is only mediocre for an all-inclusive (there are four a la carte options plus buffet); but the resort offers a fairly good beach area (especially compared to the general vicinity) with palm trees and ample lounge chairs, three infinity pools, and two often-lively swim-up bars. The rooms are somewhat modern, but those next door at Riu Palace Jamaica are decidedly higher quality (the Palace Jamaica is also adults-only and shares some amenities, so the room quality is the main factor differentiating the two); the rooms at Riu Reggae do come, however, with liquor dispensers, private balconies, and minibars. Activities include horseback riding, ziplining, jungle tours, bike tours, river tubing, and ATV tours (available in the immediate vicinity) plus beach volleyball, scuba diving, sailing, party boat rides with snorkeling, and kayaking available on-site. A fun and impressive entertainment team keeps other games and activities going throughout the day and there’s a good selection of off-site shops and restaurants within walking distance. Guests have non-reciprocal access to the amenities of Riu Montego Bay two doors down.
Guests returning to the U.S. can take the COVID-19 antigen test on-site. There is no additional cost for all adults and children. This service is available at all Riu resorts in Mexico (except Riu Plaza Guadalajara), Jamaica, Aruba, and Punta Cana and is provided by an accredited medical testing lab that complies with the requirements of the CDC. Test results are received within 72 hours prior to departure, as required by the CDC. In the event of a positive test, Riu Hotels will provide an extension of up to 10 days at no cost.
