An economy option near Montego Bay’s Hip Strip, Royal Decameron Montego Beach has a fun, social atmosphere; it’s also just a few minutes from Sangster International Airport. Airplane noise can be noticeable, the rooms are basic and somewhat dated, there are complaints about shower water temperature and consistency, the on-site beach is disappointing (a ledge separates the sand from the water), and the pool is very small (collectively, these factors have a strong negative effect on the Overall Beach Resort Rating, lowering it from the lower B range to the middle C range); but the property offers a good selection of activities, a small spa with outdoor massages, a friendly staff, and a swim-up bar. Plus, the beach at Royal Decameron Cornwall Beach (Baa1), the new sister property next door (guests have access to the facilities, including the restaurants) is quite strong for the area. The fitness center has limited equipment, but there’s a bench press, which is somewhat unique for a basic hotel gym. Rooms come with balconies or terraces, and nearly all have ocean views. Activities on-site and at the sister property next door include kayaking, sailing, tennis (with lessons), dance classes, live reggae music at night, glass bottom boat rides, snorkeling, yoga classes, archery, bocce, badminton, beach volleyball, and other beach games. Excursions to Dunn’s River Falls and other attractions can be arranged. The shops, restaurants, and other attractions of Montego Bay’s Hip Strip are within walking distance.
On-site COVID-19 testing is not available, but the front desk can help facilitate departure testing with a local lab.
