An upscale, adults-only, all-inclusive resort between Tulum and Puerto Aventuras in a quiet area along Mexico’s Riviera Maya, Secrets Akumal caters very well to couples and honeymooners with stunning swimming pool areas and plenty of activities. A very strong resort overall with few (if any) weaknesses, the property offers a nice white-sand beach, a beautiful crescent-shaped infinity pool overlooking the shore, two other large pools (one quiet, one slightly more social), complimentary greens fees at the nearby Riviera Maya Golf Club designed by Robert Trent Jones (just a couple of minutes away), a modern fitness center, an excellent 18,000-square foot spa with a variety of couples treatments and a hydrotherapy circuit, impressive overall service, and quality food for an all-inclusive with top-notch restaurant variety. Luxurious and spacious, the resort’s tastefully-decorated accommodations come with furnished balconies or terraces, whirlpools for two, complimentary minibars, and fresh interpretations of Mexican art; some of the Preferred Club and higher-end suites come with swim-up access or exceptional outdoor terraces with tons of space. Activities include a seasonal sea turtle release program, live musical performances, snorkeling with sea turtles (a guest favorite), yoga classes, tennis, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, archery and rifle shooting, dance and Spanish lessons, beach and pool volleyball, aqua spin and aerobics, and a “Meet the Chefs” kitchen tour and appetizer sampling. The Mayan ruins at Tulum aren’t far, and there are a few off-site shops and restaurants within walking distance in the small village of Akumal.
Complimentary COVID-19 antigen tests are provided on-site for guests traveling back to the United States. Test results will be received the same day in a format consistent with government requirements. A minimum 3-night stay is required to qualify. Should a guest test positive, the guest and one other are eligible to stay at the resort free of charge for up to 14 days.
