A kid-friendly, economy-to-mid-range resort in the heart of Ixtapa’s Palmar Beach hotel zone, Sunscape Dorado Pacifico Ixtapa caters well to families. The beach is only decent at best by Mexico standards, the food gets mixed reviews, and the fitness center is small with limited equipment; but the property offers a water park for kids with a few small-to-medium-sized slides, a climbing wall for kids, separate kids and teens clubs, and bright rooms (although the more basic types are a bit on the small side) with modern amenities. Rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, private balconies or terraces with at least partial ocean views, and re-stocked minibars. Video game consoles, rollaway beds and cribs, and connecting rooms or family suites are also available. Upgrading to the Sun Club level comes with perks like larger rooms, room service, access to a private lounge, and an upgraded minibar. Activities include parasailing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, aqua aerobics, tennis (two quality courts with lights for night play), beach volleyball, nightly entertainment, and nightly movies on the beach. The Sunscape Spa by Pevonia also impresses, with couples treatments, a hydrotherapy circuit, sauna and steam rooms, and both indoor and oceanfront massage areas. There’s a fairly good golf course and a good selection of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Downtown Zihuatanejo, another coastal town, is about 10 miles away.
Complimentary COVID-19 antigen tests are provided on-site for guests traveling back to the United States. Test results will be received the same day in a format consistent with government requirements. A minimum 3-night stay is required to qualify. Should a guest test positive, the guest and one other are eligible to stay at the resort free of charge for up to 14 days.
