Resort Profile

One of Cancun’s best values, The Royal Islander offers low rates, top-notch dining, and a relaxed atmosphere that caters to families and seniors. It’s unique in that it’s a condo-style resort and isn’t all-inclusive. The swimming pool area is on the small side and shows some wear, the rooms are basic (the bathrooms lack toiletries other than soap, for example) and have dated furniture, timeshare sales pitches can annoy, it’s sometimes necessary to switch rooms mid-stay (since it’s a timeshare property), and there’s no on-site fitness center (there’s one next door at The Royal Caribbean); but the property offers an excellent white-sand beach area with palapas for shade, an outstanding on-site restaurant in El Conquistador (it’s one of Cancun’s best restaurants, with a varied menu including steak and seafood), and a nice swim-up bar. Room types include two bedroom, two bathroom suites (sleep up to six); one bedroom, one bathroom suites (sleep up to four); and rooms for two. The suites are particularly family-friendly, as they come with full kitchens and spacious living and dining areas. Activities include sailing, yoga classes, Latin dance classes, pool games, and arts and crafts. The tour desk can also arrange scuba diving and snorkeling excursions, as well as tours of nearby Mayan ruins and biosphere reserves. A free shuttle is available to other Royal properties in the area.

Complimentary COVID-19 antigen tests are available on-site for guests traveling back to the United States. In the event of a positive test, Royal Resorts will cover the cost of accommodations and meals for the affected guest (from the resort’s COVID Recovery Menu) for up to 14 days (restrictions apply).
