As the pandemic continues, Tripfind resolves to keep travelers’ health and safety top-of-mind.
For each beach resort that we rate in the Caribbean and Mexico, we are temporarily assigning a COVID-19 Risk Score and updating it weekly. This is a location-level risk assessment metric (unlike our other attribute scores, which are resort-specific metrics) and is purely quantitative, based on data collected from Wikipedia and Johns Hopkins University—specifically:
The score represents the risk of a location (at the island level in the Caribbean and at the state level in Mexico) based on these three criteria, relative to other beach resort locations in the Caribbean and Mexico—NOT relative to all locations globally.
We’ve been collecting the data to calculate the COVID-19 Risk Score since April 2020 and have been updating it weekly.
The COVID-19 Risk Score is displayed on each resort’s Resort Details page on our website. The temporary attribute in Tripfind’s Advanced Search that’s associated with the score is called “Lower COVID-19 Risk,” under the temporary “Health & Safety” category at the top of the Advanced Search page. Users that would like to prioritize searching for beach resort destinations with lower risks of exposure to COVID-19 should select this attribute when conducting an Advanced Search.
Tripfind’s goal is not only to help its users enjoy their hard-earned vacations, but to always have access to data in order to effectively evaluate the risks of travel so they can stay safe and have fun.
The rating scale for the COVID-19 Risk Score comprises 10 notches (from A++ to C-), as outlined below. Higher scores correlate to lower relative risk:
Please Note: There is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 associated with traveling and moving through public spaces; regardless of a location’s COVID-19 Risk Score, Tripfind cannot guarantee that travelers will not be exposed. Tripfind’s COVID-19 Risk Score is meant to be a relative risk assessment metric only. By traveling, you agree that you assume all risks and potential costs associated with exposure to COVID-19.
